‘FUNdraising’ ideas for your school or choir
In the process of breaking this fantastic Big Sing Guinness World Record we also aim to benefit three very important charities, Youth Music, Marie Curie Cancer Care and CLIC Sargent.
As in the previous Big Sing we ask that each child makes a donation of £1.00. However, this is not compulsory and regardless of donation each participating school will be included in the World Record attempt.
Your support will provide essential funding for the charities which enables them to offer the very best care and support to children from all over the UK.
Below are a few ideas for fundraising activities which you may wish to use.
- Competition for writing a school anthem – x factor type competition, sell tickets to family and friends.
- Singing in the community – children taking part in Big Sing can get permission to sing at their local shopping centre or park etc, and could take donation buckets along.
- Themed party/disco – celebrate pop music by having a party which plays your pop favourites.
- Have an old fashioned singing competition.
- Non-uniform day – children dress up in music related clothes e.g. musical note or as their favourite music artist.
- Hold a pop quiz.
- Bonfire night
- Dance competition
- Musical drama production.
- Music sale, children bring in old records, CD’s to sell
- Music concert
- Music walkathon, children dance to the finish line.
- Battle of the bands
These are just a few ideas of what your school could do. If you have any other ideas of events or activities please let us know and we’ll add them to the list.
Don’t forget to tell us about your event and we’ll let everyone know about your achievements!
2008
On the 27th November 2008 at 2:45pm, live from the O2 Arena in London, the "Big Sing" returns to every school throughout the UK. With your support we aim to break our existing 2005 Guinness World Record of 293,978 children all singing with the stars simultaneously, by reaching the ONE MILLION CHILDREN mark.
2005
We were challenged to attempt to beat the then World Record of 83,637 young voices singing simultaneously. This attempt was to become known as the BIG SING.
Joss Stone and Lemar headed the all star lineup that kicked off the BIG SING attempt from the Royal Albert Hall at 2:45PM on December 8th 2005.
